Seating: 9, VIP seats: 0) Barrie Harding started the match with the kick off in front of an excited audience. Southwold's Ted Boxall played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mickey Bourne in the 4th minute of play. Nick Croyden received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 9th minute. Ted Boxall tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 11th minute, Mickey Bourne hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ted Boxall made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mickey Bourne in the 21st minute of play. Southwold's Ted Boxall played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mickey Bourne in the 23rd minute of play. If Mickey Bourne had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Mickey Bourne might have been able to make a better finish in the 30th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ted Boxall. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Mickey Bourne ran back to his position shaking his head. After 39 minutes, Brendon Worrall mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Poynton City and the Southwold players grew even worse after the yellow card. Brendon Worrall hit a great freekick 39 minutes into the match. Nick Croyden sent away a hard shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Mickey Bourne fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ted Boxall having to interfere. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Mickey Bourne was the one to do the kick off. In the 51st minute Michael Gascoigne shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Zak Holyfield saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Barrie Harding sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 55th match minute, Poynton City was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Archie Blowman to maneuver through the defense. In the 57th minute Rory Oakes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Zak Holyfield saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nick Croyden received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 60th minute. Ted Boxall tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Mickey Bourne recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 64th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 67th minute Barrie Harding shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Zak Holyfield saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a little luck, Southwold's Ted Boxall got control of the ball when Nick Croyden tried to sneak it across the goal line. Zak Holyfield stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Rory Oakes's shot from short distance in the 82nd minute. The supporters of Southwold booed when Poynton City was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 84 match minutes in a wonderful position. Brendon Worrall didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 87 minutes of play, Southwold's Barrie Harding made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Zak Holyfield was left in no man's land by his defense there! After some fancy dribbling in the 91st minute, Mickey Bourne managed to get in a good position for a shot. Poynton City's supporters rose to their feet, but Mickey Bourne was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ted Boxall breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Mickey Bourne in the 96th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ted Boxall prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The Southwold players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
