Seating: 9, VIP seats: 0) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Jools Beard kicked off to start the match. After a rather tough play, Budleigh Salterton's Stephen Moyse got a free kick in the 3rd minute. Ged Downton showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jools Beard, who was totally free with the ball in the 7th minute. When Budleigh Salterton's Jools Beard, in the 7th minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for Budleigh Salterton. After a rather tough play, Budleigh Salterton's Peter Higgins got a free kick in the 9th minute. 12 minutes into the match, Budleigh Salterton's goal looked a bit too open when Reuben Carpenter came free, but Alan Simms reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jools Beard received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Ged Downton tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Reuben Carpenter scored 0-1 in the 29th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Alan Simms, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. If Reuben Carpenter had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Colin Colley hit a great freekick 36 minutes into the match. If Aaron Philpott had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 45 minutes, Billy Barton managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Milton City's supporters crossed their fingers, but Billy Barton was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Alan Simms made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Billy Barton in the 47th minute of play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Billy Barton made a kick off. Reuben Carpenter could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 52nd minute of the match, but Alan Simms made a huge save. In the 53rd minute, Peter Higgins hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ged Downton stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jools Beard's shot from short distance in the 60th minute. Ged Downton took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jools Beard, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Milton City's Reuben Carpenter got a good chance for a goal in the 67th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Billy Barton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 71st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Reuben Carpenter succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 0-3 in the 71st playminute. After a rather tough play, Milton City's Guy Fitzsymon got a free kick in the 76th minute. Aaron Philpott took the ball and in the 79 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Ged Downton. Ged Downton dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-3. 85 minutes into the match, Milton City's goal looked a bit too open when Peter Higgins came free, but Ged Downton reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 90th minute, Jools Beard left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Budleigh Salterton fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-3. The Milton City players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
