Dinu Zamfirescu didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Toporu. Daniel Boroș charged in rather forcefully in the 5th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. In the 10th minute Stelian Gârniceanu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dinu Zamfirescu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 13 minutes of play, Fotbal Club FCSB SA's Ioan Suciu made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Gică Stafie was left in no man's land by his defense there! If Ioan Suciu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dinu Zamfirescu was a little too slow when Stelian Gârniceanu got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 27th minute. The score was now 2-2. Nicolae Crișan might have been able to make a better finish in the 39th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Gică Stafie. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Nicolae Crișan ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 42nd minute, Ioan Suciu made a precise shot to the right of Gică Stafie. Toporu's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-3. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 2-3.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Ioan Suciu made a kick off. Nicolae Crișan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 52nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Fotbal Club FCSB SA's Ivan Cazimir got a good chance for a goal in the 58th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Stelian Gârniceanu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 61st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Daniel Bute in the 63rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Dinu Zamfirescu prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Stelian Gârniceanu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 82nd minute. Dinu Zamfirescu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Damian Sticlaru during the 89th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The second half was just like the first, even and exciting. The match ended in a draw.
