Borussia Dortmund's Vali Albu got a good chance for a goal in the 31st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Nicodim Almăgean helped the player get up and apologised. Balauseri's Calistrat Vâlcu was substituted for Octav Ghețea. After a rather tough play, Borussia Dortmund's Nicodim Almăgean got a free kick in the 42nd minute. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

In the 54th minute Victor Hoancă shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nae Scorţea saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Flavius Aliuta kicked well hit freekick during the 58th minute of the match. Leonard Pantelimon took the ball and in the 59 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Codrin Penaru. Codrin Penaru made a fantastic save in the 66th minute, when Leonard Pantelimon sent off a good shot on target. A collision led to Borussia Dortmund getting a freekick after 79 minutes play. Manuel Lucănescu hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, Borussia Dortmund's Nicodim Almăgean got a free kick in the 82nd minute. Leonard Pantelimon blasted a shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Codrin Penaru having to make a save. In the 90th minute, Leonard Pantelimon got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.
