Emil Kociniewski didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Jan Trzenzalski went, in the 2nd minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Emil Kociniewski showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jorginho Queiroz in the 7th minute of the match. Emil Kociniewski stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jorginho Queiroz's shot from short distance in the 7th minute. Rareș Trif sent away a hard shot on goal in the 8th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Emil Kociniewski showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Anton Munteanu in the 11th minute of the match. Octavian Văcărescu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Emilian Feteanu having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Universitatea cluj's Alin Tăcutu got a free kick in the 14th minute. Emilian Feteanu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alin Tăcutu, who was totally free with the ball in the 18th minute. 26 minutes into the match, Universitatea cluj's goal looked a bit too open when Tiberiu Dulgherescu came free, but Emil Kociniewski reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The crowd rose to their feet as Lucian Baldovinescu kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Emilian Feteanu. That made the score 1-1 in the 28 minute of play. After 31 minutes of play, Politehnica Iasi's Jorginho Queiroz made it 1-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Emil Kociniewski was left in no man's land by his defense there! An unexpectedly hard shot by Tiberiu Dulgherescu in the 34th minute of play forced Universitatea cluj's goalkeeper Emil Kociniewski to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 44th minute Tiberiu Dulgherescu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Emil Kociniewski saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Universitatea cluj's Emil Kociniewski played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tiberiu Dulgherescu in the 47th minute of play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

One of Universitatea cluj:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Politehnica Iasi:s goal. A collision led to Politehnica Iasi getting a freekick after 67 minutes play. Jorginho Queiroz hit a great ball. The supporters of Politehnica Iasi booed when Universitatea cluj was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 70 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bartolo Alarcon didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Jan Trzenzalski got free with Emil Kociniewski in the 71st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Jorginho Queiroz in the 74th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Emil Kociniewski prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When the match clock showed 74 minutes, the score became 1-4 when Jorginho Queiroz sped through Universitatea cluj's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Emil Kociniewski. The audience thought a goal was coming when Anton Munteanu got free with Emil Kociniewski in the 84th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 89th minute, Jan Trzenzalski left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Politehnica Iasi fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-7. Politehnica Iasi played a much better game than Universitatea cluj and deserved their victory. The Universitatea cluj players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
