The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Young Gunners's Thanos Christidis played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sotos Stergiou in the 4th minute of play. 5 minutes had been played when some careless play by Young Gunners's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Stelios Mavropoulos was slow to take the kick. During this time Várpova's players had a chance to rest. 11 minutes into the match, Várpova's Thanos Barkoglou sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Thanos Christidis narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Ntinos Makridakis took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 13th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Thanos Christidis. Young Gunners's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sotos Stergiou in the 16th minute of play forced Young Gunners's goalkeeper Thanos Christidis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Evripidis Basinas made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Chrisostomos Mouratis in the 29th minute of play. Chrisostomos Mouratis fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Evripidis Basinas having to interfere. If Sotos Stergiou had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Sotos Stergiou came up free with the goalie in the 38th minute, the Várpova fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sotos Stergiou couldn't finish the play. After a defensive mix-up in Young Gunners's zone, Sotos Stergiou stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Thanos Christidis came out of the goal and Sotos Stergiou tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Thanos Christidis showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Thanos Barkoglou, who was totally free with the ball in the 41st minute.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Chrisostomos Mouratis stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute, Thanos Barkoglou got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 56 minutes into the match, Young Gunners's goalkeeper Thanos Christidis had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Sotos Stergiou. After 57 played minutes Várpova got a freekick which was hit by Giannis Skoufas. An unexpectedly hard shot by Chrisostomos Mouratis in the 64th minute of play forced Várpova's goalkeeper Evripidis Basinas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Kostas Mavreas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 66th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 67 minutes into the game, Christos Strimmenos was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Young Gunners's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Várpova the free kick. In the 68th match minute, Young Gunners was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Christos Strimmenos to maneuver through the defense. Thanos Christidis stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Thanos Barkoglou's shot from short distance in the 77th minute. Thanos Christidis made an important save on a dangerous shot by Sotos Stergiou in the 80th minute. Thanos Barkoglou received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 82nd minute. Thanos Christidis tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Thanos Barkoglou sent away a hard shot on goal in the 86th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Stelios Mavropoulos walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. Várpova's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
