Phạm Tong didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Nguyễn Chuong went, in the 6th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. 12 minutes into the match, Chealse's goalkeeper Liễu Minh Phượng had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Nguyễn Duy. Nguyễn Duy did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 1-1 to the left of a surprised Liễu Minh Phượng 13 minutes into the match. Chealse's Liễu Minh Phượng proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 23rd minute of the match, managed to save Chealse from getting a goal against them. If Phan Phu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Nguyễn Mai in the 29th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Liễu Minh Phượng prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Nguyễn Mai fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Liễu Minh Phượng having to interfere. In the 34th minute, Lê Than hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a rather tough play, Can Tho's Trần Hoai got a free kick in the 36th minute. In the 39thth minute of the game Nguyễn Chuong who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Can Tho's Phạm Tong was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. If Nguyễn Chuong had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 45th match minute, Can Tho was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nguyễn Tho to maneuver through the defense. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Nguyễn Mai to make the kick off. When Hoàng Chi fell near the penalty area in the 52nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Can Tho's protests and gave Hoàng Chi a yellow card for diving instead. In the 52nd minute, one of Can Tho:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Can Tho. Lê Nghiêm-Minh shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. Phạm Tong made an important save on a dangerous shot by Nguyễn Chuong in the 58th minute. After some careless play in the Chealse defense, Nguyễn Duy kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Liễu Minh Phượng. The Chealse fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Liễu Minh Phượng should have stopped the shot. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Nguyễn Tho during the 63rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Can Tho getting a freekick after 63 minutes play. Nguyễn Tho hit a great ball. Nguyễn Tho got his second yellow card in the match during the 68th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. In a very dangerous position, a player in Can Tho fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 67th minute. Penalty! Lê Nghiêm-Minh shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. Liễu Minh Phượng made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nguyễn Duy in the 76th minute of play. 78 minutes into the match, Can Tho's goalkeeper Phạm Tong had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Nguyễn Chuong. Nguyễn Duy sent away a hard shot on goal in the 80th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Can Tho's Nguyễn Mai got a good chance for a goal in the 82nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 85 minutes into the game, Chealse's Nguyễn Chuong nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Phạm Tong made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-2. Nguyễn Mai's late challenge caught a Chealse's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Nguyễn Mai helped the player get up and apologised. Nguyễn Mai kicked well hit freekick during the 97th minute of the match. The second half was just like the first, even and exciting. The match ended in a draw.
