Hernani Sydney's supporters crossed their fingers, but Sam Maybury was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-4 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Darren Limmer stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Hernani Sydney's Bob Laughton got a free kick in the 51st minute. With a little luck, Hernani Sydney's Randell Warhurst got control of the ball when Irwin Thomas tried to sneak it across the goal line.
