The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Timo Courtois showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gustaaf Groeneveldt, who was totally free with the ball in the 3rd minute. 5 minutes had been played when some careless play by SSV Ulm 1846's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Gijsbert ter Kruimer was slow to take the kick. During this time Netherlands's players had a chance to rest. In the 7th minute, SSV Ulm 1846's Alberigo Sessa ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Arnout Reekers. Arnout Reekers yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. 11 minutes into the match, SSV Ulm 1846's goal looked a bit too open when Gijsbert ter Kruimer came free, but Timo Courtois reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Netherlands's Arnout Reekers played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alberigo Sessa in the 21st minute of play. 23 minutes into the game, Netherlands's Lars Meesters nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Timo Courtois made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. In the 25th minute, Egbert Nijveldt hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Timo Courtois took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Wim Wilmes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Timo Courtois showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer, who was totally free with the ball in the 33rd minute. Albrecht Bosbach could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 35th minute of the match, but Arnout Reekers made a huge save. After some careless play in the Netherlands defense, Alberigo Sessa kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Arnout Reekers. The Netherlands fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Arnout Reekers should have stopped the shot. Alberigo Sessa could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 42nd minute of the match, but Arnout Reekers made a huge save. Lars Meesters hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Gijsbert ter Kruimer to make the kick off. SSV Ulm 1846's Timo Courtois played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 54th minute of play. When Netherlands's Lars Meesters in the 55th minute got a chance for a shot 55th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye SSV Ulm 1846's goalie prevented a goal. In the 57th minute, Mathijn Doctor hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Alberigo Sessa in the 61st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Arnout Reekers prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Wim Wilmes's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Timo Courtois firmly grabbed it by the left post. 63 minutes had been played when some careless play by SSV Ulm 1846's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Gijsbert ter Kruimer was slow to take the kick. During this time Netherlands's players had a chance to rest. Gustaaf Groeneveldt's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Timo Courtois firmly grabbed it by the left post. In the 71st minute of the match Netherlands got a corner. SSV Ulm 1846's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Gijsbert ter Kruimer ran over to the corner to take the kick. A collision led to Netherlands getting a freekick after 71 minutes play. Egbert Nijveldt hit a great ball. In the 73rd minute Gijsbert ter Kruimer shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Timo Courtois saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Wim Wilmes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 85th minute. Timo Courtois tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a little luck, SSV Ulm 1846's Timo Courtois got control of the ball when Gustaaf Groeneveldt tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 93rd minute, Netherlands's Gustaaf Groeneveldt ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Timo Courtois. Timo Courtois yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-2. SSV Ulm 1846 succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Netherlands had controlled the match.
