After having played for 2 minutes, Pablo Lampard managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Casper Claes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Robby Woody in the 5th minute of the match. Casper Claes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Robby Woody in the 8th minute of play. When Edward Vanderstraeten came up free with the goalie in the 10th minute, the Belgium fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Edward Vanderstraeten couldn't finish the play. 11 minutes into the game, Belgium's Edward Vanderstraeten nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Percy Fernandez made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Percy Fernandez stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Edward Vanderstraeten's shot from short distance in the 16th minute. 17 minutes into the match, Edward Vanderstraeten notched a goal, 0-2, to the right of Sport Clube Recife's Percy Fernandez. Percy Fernandez was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Sport Clube Recife were furious when Reginaldo Brodel was red carded, 23 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. After 23 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Sport Clube Recife! The referee gave Belgium a penalty, 26 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Edward Vanderstraeten, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Sport Clube Recife's Percy Fernandez. 0-3. Edward Vanderstraeten fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Percy Fernandez having to interfere. In the 33rd minute Edward Vanderstraeten shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Percy Fernandez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Pablo Lampard got free with Casper Claes in the 35th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 37 minutes of play, Belgium's Edward Vanderstraeten made it 0-4 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Percy Fernandez was left in no man's land by his defense there! Gualter Penha sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Percy Fernandez showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Edward Vanderstraeten, who was totally free with the ball in the 47th minute. After the first half Belgium were leading 0-4. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

In the 51st minute, Laurens Vandamme hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 53rd minute Edward Vanderstraeten shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Percy Fernandez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Edward Vanderstraetens short, quick shot in the 56thth minute got Percy Fernandez to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. After some careless play in the Sport Clube Recife defense, Edward Vanderstraeten kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Percy Fernandez. The Sport Clube Recife fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Percy Fernandez should have stopped the shot. Percy Fernandez showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Edward Vanderstraeten in the 64th minute of the match. Edward Vanderstraeten came free with the goalkeeper in the 67th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Percy Fernandez could save by the left post. Edward Vanderstraeten made a great header on Belgium's corner, it was just that Sport Clube Recife's Percy Fernandez managed to reach the ball for a save. Casper Claes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Knut Söderström in the 72nd minute of play. If Edward Vanderstraeten had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 79th match minute, Sport Clube Recife was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nurkan Semdin to maneuver through the defense. Percy Fernandez made a fantastic save in the 85th minute, when Edward Vanderstraeten sent off a good shot on target. Dong Yang Bang went to the cornerflag to take it. Sport Clube Recife's Dong Yang Bang was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Casper Claes in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Although Sport Clube Recife had been in control for most of the match, Belgium still came away with the win.
