Deportivo Alavés's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Andrés Iniesta in the 4th minute. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Hungary's goalie and right to Sergi Gómez. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Hungary's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Sergi Gómez could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 10th minute of the match, but Fodor Daniel made a huge save. A collision led to Deportivo Alavés getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Wiggo Wipp hit a great ball. In the 16th minute the ball was on its way in behind Deportivo Alavés's goalkeeper Nils-Åke Andreasson, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Nils-Åke Andreasson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Antal Valentin in the 17th minute of the match. In the 20th minute the ball was on its way in behind Hungary's goalkeeper Fodor Daniel, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Lesardo Alavedra's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Fodor Daniel read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 25th minute of play. Hungary's Fodor Daniel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lesardo Alavedra in the 26th minute of play. Lesardo Alavedra could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 32nd minute of the match, but Fodor Daniel made a huge save. Nils-Åke Andreasson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Antal Valentin, who was totally free with the ball in the 33rd minute. 36 minutes into the match, Deportivo Alavés's goal looked a bit too open when Major Barna came free, but Nils-Åke Andreasson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 39th minute, Wiggo Wipp hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Lesardo Alavedra struck a weak shot in the 41st minute. Fodor Daniel didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Deportivo Alavés. In the 43rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Deportivo Alavés's goalkeeper Nils-Åke Andreasson, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After 44 played minutes Deportivo Alavés got a freekick which was hit by Amador Urbasa. Deportivo Alavés's Nils-Åke Andreasson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Antal Valentin in the 45th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Deportivo Alavés's Wiggo Wipp got a free kick in the 46th minute. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Antal Valentin stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute, Lesardo Alavedra got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Lesardo Alavedra scored 1-0 in the 54th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Fodor Daniel, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 64th minute, Major Barna got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 69th minute, Andrés Iniesta hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 75 minutes into the match, Deportivo Alavés's Lesardo Alavedra sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Fodor Daniel narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Despite this Fodor Daniel quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. When the match had gone on for 87 minutes, Balazs Lajos took a quick shot and it went in 1-1 without a chance for Nils-Åke Andreasson to make any attempt to save it. 89 minutes into the match, Deportivo Alavés's Lesardo Alavedra sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Fodor Daniel narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Antal Valentin recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 93rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
