In the 23rd minute Hermes Arruda shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mauro Torne saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 28th play minute Juan-Alfredo Guceño came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Miguel Carneiro. 1-1. But to his dismay, Celso Estrada quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. Inter de Guayaquil FC's Mauro Torne played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hermes Arruda in the 41st minute of play. 47 minutes into the match, Inter de Guayaquil FC's goal looked a bit too open when Hermes Arruda came free, but Mauro Torne reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After the first half Stars Academy were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Antero Rebocho made a kick off. In the 51st minute Hermes Arruda shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mauro Torne saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Mauro Torne showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hermes Arruda in the 57th minute of the match. Hermes Arruda could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 58th minute of the match, but Mauro Torne made a huge save. Miguel Carneiro showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Fernando Guedeja, who was totally free with the ball in the 60th minute. Juan-Alfredo Guceño received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 61st minute. Miguel Carneiro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Miguel Carneiro showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Leonardo Olazabal in the 68th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fernando Guedeja in the 69th minute of play forced Stars Academy's goalkeeper Miguel Carneiro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Miguel Carneiro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fernando Guedeja in the 72nd minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Fernando Guedeja during the 76th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Fernando Guedeja scored 3-2 in the 80th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Miguel Carneiro, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Mauro Torne took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Hermes Arruda, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 84th minute, Hermes Arruda left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Stars Academy fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-3. But to his dismay, Hermes Arruda quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-4. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Stars Academy eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
