Arnout Reekers took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Wincent Rode, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Gijsbert ter Kruimer had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Netherlands's Arnout Reekers played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Roman Adamczak in the 23rd minute of play. Roland Klimkiewicz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gustaaf Groeneveldt in the 25th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wim Wilmes in the 28th minute of play forced CRS Pogoń Barlinek's goalkeeper Roland Klimkiewicz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 30th minute Witalis Bienienda shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Arnout Reekers saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Gijsbert ter Kruimer received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 31st minute. Roland Klimkiewicz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, CRS Pogoń Barlinek's Roman Adamczak got a free kick in the 37th minute. Roland Klimkiewicz dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. After the first half Netherlands were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When Gijsbert ter Kruimer came up free with the goalie in the 51st minute, the Netherlands fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gijsbert ter Kruimer couldn't finish the play. Lars Meesters struck a weak shot in the 53rd minute. Roland Klimkiewicz was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Gijsbert ter Kruimer showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 0-4 in the 67 minute of play. CRS Pogoń Barlinek's Herbert Duszenski was substituted for Aleksander Czysty. In the 72nd minute Netherlands were awarded a corner. Gijsbert ter Kruimer went to the cornerflag to take it.
