Benedicto Ireno took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Edward Vanderstraeten, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 70th minute, Edward Vanderstraeten got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The Belgium fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Casper Claes should have stopped the shot. In the 88th minute Teodosio Montes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Casper Claes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Casper Claes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Teodosio Montes, who was totally free with the ball in the 91st minute. If Yves Dervaux had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Belgium's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
