Faustino Almeida made in the 18th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by GuateFortín's Claudio Cerritos. Zico Zellier could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 25th minute of the match, but Wilson Amorim made a huge save. Nery Pumpido took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Pimentel, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a defensive mix-up in Portugal's zone, Zico Zellier stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Wilson Amorim came out of the goal and Zico Zellier tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Zico Zellier got free with Wilson Amorim in the 30th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Zico Zellier's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Wilson Amorim read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 31st minute of play. The crowd rose to their feet as GuateFortín's Zico Zellier slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Wilson Amorim. That made the score 1-0 after 33 minutes of play. The audience was convinced that Felipe Barreto's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Nery Pumpido was relentless in the 37th minute of the game. 38 minutes had been played when some careless play by GuateFortín's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Felipe Barreto was slow to take the kick. During this time Portugal's players had a chance to rest. In the 39th match minute, Portugal was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Caetano Moreira to maneuver through the defense. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

If Felipe Barreto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 51st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The audience thought a goal was coming when Felipe Barreto got free with Nery Pumpido in the 51st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Portugal's Wilson Amorim played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sven-Edvin Jansson in the 52nd minute of play. Caetano Moreira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 54th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nery Pumpido having to interfere. Angel Alvarenga succeeded in the game's 59th minute to get real power on a long shot . Portugal's Wilson Amorim hadn't the time to block the shot which was pasted into the goal, 2-1! Wilson Amorim showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Zico Zellier in the 63rd minute of the match. Portugal's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Claudio Cerritos ran over to the corner to take the kick. Claudio Cerritos made a great header on GuateFortín's corner, it was just that Portugal's Wilson Amorim managed to reach the ball for a save. Nery Pumpido showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Felipinho Amorim in the 90th minute of the match. GuateFortín's defense didn't have a chance, in the 94th minute, when Bartolomeu Dias scored to the left of an out of position Nery Pumpido, making the score, 2-2. The Portugal players were the happier at the end of the match as they had prevented GuateFortín from taking control. The game ends in a draw.
