The Vélez Juniors fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Elpidio Vitin should have stopped the shot. Wilson Amorim made an important save on a dangerous shot by Cristian Naike in the 38th minute. Nicolas Roland could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 40th minute of the match, but Wilson Amorim made a huge save. After having played for 44 minutes, Cristian Naike managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Vélez Juniors's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cristian Naike was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

With a couple of smart ball manuevers Bartolomeu Dias in the 71st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Elpidio Vitin saved Vélez Juniors from getting behind. After a defensive mix-up in Vélez Juniors's zone, Bartolomeu Dias stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Elpidio Vitin came out of the goal and Bartolomeu Dias tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Wilson Amorim made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Severo Maule in the 81st minute of play. Portugal's attentive Daniel Pimentel managed to snatch the ball when Godofredo Ado made a throw-in in the 85th minute of the game. After a defensive mix-up in Vélez Juniors's zone, Daniel Pimentel stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Elpidio Vitin came out of the goal and Daniel Pimentel tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.
