When the match clock showed 6 minutes, the score became 1-0 when Gelu Chirilă sped through Switzerland's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Hias Nüssli. Hias Nüssli made a fantastic save in the 9th minute, when Gelu Chirilă sent off a good shot on target. 18 minutes into the game, Gelu Chirilă cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-0. Hias Nüssli was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. If Gelu Chirilă had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 22nd minute of the match, Gelu Chirilă tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Hias Nüssli saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Switzerland's Hias Nüssli proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 26th minute of the match, managed to save Switzerland from getting a goal against them. Hias Nüssli showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gelu Chirilă in the 29th minute of the match. Gelu Chirilă might have been able to make a better finish in the 94th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Hias Nüssli. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Gelu Chirilă ran back to his position shaking his head. After a defensive mix-up in Switzerland's zone, Gelu Chirilă stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Hias Nüssli came out of the goal and Gelu Chirilă tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.
