Spectators: 40 (Terracing: 31, Seating: 9, VIP seats: 0) Velez Sarsfield's Augusto Cordario started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Velez Sarsfield's Marcos Pacifico managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Faustino Almeida in the 4 minute of the game. Augusto Cordario blasted a shot towards the goal in the 4th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Wilson Amorim having to make a save. Augusto Cordario could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 4th minute of the match, but Wilson Amorim made a huge save. When Augusto Cordario came up free with the goalie in the 6th minute, the Velez Sarsfield fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Augusto Cordario couldn't finish the play. Portugal's Wilson Amorim proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 9th minute of the match, managed to save Portugal from getting a goal against them. The crowd rose to their feet as Augusto Cordario kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Wilson Amorim. That made the score 1-0 in the 12 minute of play. 15 minutes into the match, Velez Sarsfield's goal looked a bit too open when Caetano Moreira came free, but Erwin Huygens reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 35th minute Viriato Moura shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Erwin Huygens saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 39th match minute, Velez Sarsfield was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ronan Mistral to maneuver through the defense. The supporters of Portugal booed when Velez Sarsfield was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 41 match minutes in a wonderful position. Augusto Cordario didn't get a good kick on the ball. Augusto Cordario's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Wilson Amorim read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 44th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ignacio Berenguer in the 47th minute of play forced Portugal's goalkeeper Wilson Amorim to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Wilson Amorim showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Augusto Cordario, who was totally free with the ball in the 54th minute. Velez Sarsfield's Erwin Huygens played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Felipe Barreto in the 65th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Viriato Moura in the 68th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Erwin Huygens saved Velez Sarsfield from getting behind. Augusto Cordario took the ball and in the 73 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Wilson Amorim. Wilson Amorim dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-1. Portugal's Bartolomeu Dias was substituted for Viriato Moura. Portugal made a substitution. Felipinho Amorim replaced Felipe Barreto. Velez Sarsfield made a substitution. Leandro Berti replaced Ignacio Berenguer. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bartolomeu Dias in the 82nd minute of play forced Velez Sarsfield's goalkeeper Erwin Huygens to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Felipinho Amorim got free with Erwin Huygens in the 93rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The supporters of Velez Sarsfield booed when Portugal was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fabricio Andrade didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 95th match minute, Portugal was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bruno Bastos to maneuver through the defense. Velez Sarsfield's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
