Emmerich Aumüller's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Arnout Reekers read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 36th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lars Meesters in the 38th minute of play forced Französisch Buchholz FC's goalkeeper Heimko Geisen to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Arnout Reekers showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Marcus Isaksson, who was totally free with the ball in the 41st minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 42nd minute, Gustaaf Groeneveldt managed to get in a good position for a shot. Netherlands's supporters rose to their feet, but Gustaaf Groeneveldt was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Heimko Geisen breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Gijsbert ter Kruimer to make the kick off. The supporters of Französisch Buchholz FC booed when Netherlands was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gustaaf Groeneveldt didn't get a good kick on the ball. Heimko Geisen came out of the goal in the 68th minute to try and stop a shot by Netherlands's Gijsbert ter Kruimer. But to his dismay, Gijsbert ter Kruimer quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Gustaaf Groeneveldt might have been able to make a better finish in the 70th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Heimko Geisen. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Gustaaf Groeneveldt ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 81st minute Emmerich Aumüller shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Arnout Reekers saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the final whistle sounded Netherlands left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Französisch Buchholz FC.
