After 20 played minutes PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca got a freekick which was hit by Strong Phoenix. In the 23rd minute, Aristide Fetea hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience thought a goal was coming when Danny Edelmann got free with Dacian Ghițescu in the 24th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Hermann Blumenthal could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 26th minute of the match, but Dacian Ghițescu made a huge save. Terry Kieffer made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Aristide Fetea in the 28th minute of play. Codruț Macaneață kicked well hit freekick during the 28th minute of the match. Dacian Ghițescu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Danny Edelmann, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. When Danny Edelmann came up free with the goalie in the 34th minute, the FC Lëtzebuerg fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Danny Edelmann couldn't finish the play. PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca's Virgil Jupân quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Ernie Hoffmann, made in the 37th minute of the game. Hermann Blumenthal hit a great freekick 40 minutes into the match.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Danny Edelmann to make the kick off.
