Arnout Reekers showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Emilio Henric, who was totally free with the ball in the 18th minute. The supporters of Netherlands booed when Club A. Independiente was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marcos Liberto didn't get a good kick on the ball. Independiente's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Gijsbert ter Kruimer who took care of the corner kick. The corner ended in Lars Meesters almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Club A. Independiente's Lajos Vadász did a great save. The Club A. Independiente supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Netherlands's performance. The match ended with a win for Netherlands.
