The corner led AFC - Curitiba's Silvio Asier to fire away a dangerous shot which Ioritz Hernainz despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sansone Poso in the 10th minute of play forced AFC - Curitiba's goalkeeper Fausto da Rocha to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 11th minute, August Wahlnäs got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Ronaldo Messi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 13th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. When Romário Ortiz fell near the penalty area in the 52nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored AFC - Curitiba's protests and gave Romário Ortiz a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to AFC - Curitiba getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. Romário Ortiz hit a great ball. Fausto da Rocha showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Aquiles Telmo, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. 55 minutes into the game, America De Cali's Aquiles Telmo nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. After some careless play in the AFC - Curitiba defense, Sansone Poso kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Fausto da Rocha. The AFC - Curitiba fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Fausto da Rocha should have stopped the shot. When the referee ended the match the America De Cali players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
