Manfred Fribäck took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Felipe Barreto, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Wilson Amorim made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tage Backlund in the 9th minute of play. Nicolás Castillo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 34th minute of the match, but Wilson Amorim made a huge save. Manfred Fribäck came out of the goal in the 35th minute to try and stop a shot by Portugal's Caetano Moreira. But to his dismay, Caetano Moreira quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-1. 45 minutes into the match, Norrlands Athen's Nicolás Castillo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Wilson Amorim narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 47 minutes into the game, Gilbert Darwis threw the ball into play from the sideline. Portugal's Daniel Pimentel quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Tage Backlund stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute, Tage Backlund ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Wilson Amorim was frozen by the shot and now it was 4-1. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Manfred Fribäck, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Manfred Fribäck was left in no man's land by his defense there! Manfred Fribäck made an important save on a dangerous shot by Felipinho Amorim in the 83rd minute. 85 minutes had been played when some careless play by Norrlands Athen's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Daniel Pimentel was slow to take the kick. During this time Portugal's players had a chance to rest. After taking down the ball on Portugal's corner Caetano Moreira fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Manfred Fribäck quite easily take care of the ball. 91 minutes in the game, Daniel Pimentel fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Manfred Fribäck having to interfere. Erik Ljusberg struck a weak shot in the 93rd minute. Wilson Amorim didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Norrlands Athen.
