Kaj Hård could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 14th minute of the match, but Arnout Reekers made a huge save. 15 minutes into the match, spikarna's goal looked a bit too open when Gustaaf Groeneveldt came free, but Lars Norberg reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Netherlands's Arnout Reekers played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sven Nordkvist in the 17th minute of play. In the 18th minute Gijsbert ter Kruimer shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lars Norberg saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Netherlands were awarded a corner in the 39th minute after spikarna's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Gijsbert ter Kruimer took the corner. The crowd rose to their feet as spikarna's Olof Hamnberg slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Arnout Reekers. That made the score 1-1 after 45 minutes of play. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Kaj Hård to strike the kick off in the second half. Arnout Reekers took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Sven Nordkvist, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Lars Norberg showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer, who was totally free with the ball in the 74th minute.
