Bahiano Caballeria took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ramiro Quintanilha, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 6 minutes into the game, Italiano's Ramiro Quintanilha nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Bahiano Caballeria made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. In the 13th minute, Jan Koller left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Deportivo Ortegano fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. If Jan Koller had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 19th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a little luck, Italiano's Peter Shilton got control of the ball when Orland Uceda tried to sneak it across the goal line. Freddie Bergman's late challenge caught a Deportivo Ortegano's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Freddie Bergman helped the player get up and apologised. Italiano's Dobromir Oleszak got a good chance for a goal in the 36th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The Deportivo Ortegano fans' excitement grew in the 37th match minute when Deportivo Ortegano's Jan Koller looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 2-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Bahiano Caballeria made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Diego Armando Maradona in the 40th minute of play. With his leg Peter Shilton managed to avoid a goal in the 41stth minute, when Deportivo Ortegano's Jan Koller fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. After a rather tough play, Italiano's Freddie Bergman got a free kick in the 44th minute. Peter Shilton made an important save on a dangerous shot by Nicasio Guipuzcoa in the 47th minute. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Ramiro Quintanilha stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 51 minutes into the match, Italiano's goal looked a bit too open when Jan Koller came free, but Peter Shilton reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Peter Shilton stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jan Koller's shot from short distance in the 51st minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nicasio Guipuzcoa in the 57th minute of play forced Italiano's goalkeeper Peter Shilton to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Jan Koller in the 60th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Peter Shilton prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Bahiano Caballeria made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Joseph Låsberg in the 62nd minute of play. 63 minutes into the match, Deportivo Ortegano's goalkeeper Bahiano Caballeria had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ramiro Quintanilha. After 64 minutes of play, Deportivo Ortegano's Jan Koller made it 3-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Peter Shilton was left in no man's land by his defense there! Peter Shilton showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Orland Uceda, who was totally free with the ball in the 69th minute. When Ramiro Quintanilha fell near the penalty area in the 73rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Italiano's protests and gave Ramiro Quintanilha a yellow card for diving instead. After 73 played minutes Italiano got a freekick which was hit by Ramiro Quintanilha. In the 77thth minute of the game Jan Koller who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Italiano's Peter Shilton was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The audience was convinced that Diego Armando Maradona's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Bahiano Caballeria was relentless in the 78th minute of the game. Nicasio Guipuzcoa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 80th minute. Peter Shilton tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Italiano's Peter Shilton tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Deportivo Ortegano's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
