The supporters of Sporting de Gijón booed when Real Chelsea was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 17 match minutes in a wonderful position. Barney Yeo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Matias Bilintx took the ball and in the 19 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Drew Knight. Drew Knight showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Denis Bonadona, who was totally free with the ball in the 21st minute. After 26 played minutes, Sporting de Gijón's Saturnino Curcio shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Drew Knight came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Sporting de Gijón reached it. 0-2 became the score in the 32nd minute when Denis Bonadona elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. After having played for 38 minutes, Denis Bonadona managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Sporting de Gijón's supporters crossed their fingers, but Denis Bonadona was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 40thth minute of the game Matias Bilintx who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Real Chelsea's Drew Knight was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 46th minute Alfie Downing shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dante Fernendo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 47th minute Real Chelsea were awarded a corner. Barney Yeo went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner ended in Barney Yeo almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Sporting de Gijón's Dante Fernendo did a great save.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Matias Bilintx to strike the kick off in the second half. Drew Knight made an important save on a dangerous shot by Matias Bilintx in the 50th minute.
