In the 25th minute, Robbin Gijselinckx hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Belgium's Jacq De Vriendt played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Frenkie de Jong in the 26th minute of play. Robbin Gijselinckx kicked well hit freekick during the 29th minute of the match. Jacq De Vriendt showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Marinus Doren, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Frenkie de Jong in the 37th minute of play forced Belgium's goalkeeper Jacq De Vriendt to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 39th minute, Guus Harmsen ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Jacq De Vriendt was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-3. Disappointed in the 0-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Guus Harmsen stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Belgium's Jacq De Vriendt played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Guus Harmsen in the 51st minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Frenkie de Jong in the 60th minute of play forced Belgium's goalkeeper Jacq De Vriendt to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 62 minutes into the game, Frenkie de Jong recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Jacq De Vriendt. Frenkie de Jong showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 0-4. After some fancy dribbling in the 64th minute, Guus Harmsen managed to get in a good position for a shot. Netherlands's supporters rose to their feet, but Guus Harmsen was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jacq De Vriendt breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 66 minutes into the match, Netherlands's Frenkie de Jong sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Jacq De Vriendt narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Frenkie de Jong received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Jacq De Vriendt came out and tried to block the shot, but Frenkie de Jong slotted it home off the left post making it 0-5 in the 66th minute. Frenkie de Jong blasted a shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Jacq De Vriendt having to make a save. Jacq De Vriendt made a fantastic save in the 70th minute, when Frenkie de Jong sent off a good shot on target. The audience was convinced that Frenkie de Jong's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jacq De Vriendt was relentless in the 72nd minute of the game. 73 minutes into the match, Netherlands's goal looked a bit too open when Elias Geraerts came free, but Tadej Pogačar reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Netherlands's Guus Harmsen, in the 78th minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for Netherlands. Frenkie de Jong took the ball and in the 81 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Jacq De Vriendt. Jacq De Vriendt dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-6. Netherlands's Joop Bakker was substituted for Marinus Doren. A hard shot 87 in the game by Frenkie de Jong from a close distance when the talented Jacq De Vriendt managed to make a qualified save. Belgium's players were relieved. Frenkie de Jong sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The supporters of Netherlands booed when Belgium was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 92 match minutes in a wonderful position. Benoit Ivens didn't get a good kick on the ball. The Netherlands players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
