After a rather tough play, PAOK's Telis Bikopoulos got a free kick in the 7th minute. A collision led to Austria getting a freekick after 8 minutes play. Fabio Schneider hit a great ball. The supporters of Austria booed when PAOK was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 11 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alkis Panagiotopoulos didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 13th minute, Alkis Panagiotopoulos managed to get in a good position for a shot. PAOK's supporters rose to their feet, but Alkis Panagiotopoulos was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Fabio Auer breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Petros Karterouliotis during the 15th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Petros Karterouliotis hit a great freekick 15 minutes into the match. If Fabio Schneider had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 22 minutes into the game, Alkis Panagiotopoulos was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. PAOK's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Austria the free kick. The supporters of Austria booed when PAOK was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alkis Panagiotopoulos didn't get a good kick on the ball. Marvin Harrer recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 23rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Akis Katsanis fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fabio Auer having to interfere. After 28 played minutes PAOK got a freekick which was hit by Akis Katsanis. Austria's Fabio Schneider got a good chance for a goal in the 29th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 30 played minutes PAOK got a freekick which was hit by Telis Bikopoulos. Marvin Harrer received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 31st minute. Vlassis Sachinidis tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Akis Katsanis was the one to do the kick off. Austria's Fabio Auer played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alkis Panagiotopoulos in the 65th minute of play. 66 minutes had been played when some careless play by Austria's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Lazaros Papachronopoulos was slow to take the kick. During this time PAOK's players had a chance to rest. After 77 played minutes Austria got a freekick which was hit by Leonhard Maier. Alkis Panagiotopoulos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 80th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fabio Auer having to interfere. In the 82nd minute, Lazaros Papachronopoulos got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 84 minutes into the game, Jonas Nalder threw the ball into play from the sideline. PAOK's Alkis Panagiotopoulos quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Fabio Auer showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alkis Panagiotopoulos in the 85th minute of the match. Akis Katsanis sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Despite being the better team, PAOK failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
