In the 16th minute Portugal were awarded a corner. Felipe Barreto went to the cornerflag to take it. It was a well-played corner which Graciano Coutinho managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. Wilson Amorim made a fantastic save in the 18th minute, when Valeriu Morovan sent off a good shot on target. Martin Crețu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Viriato Moura, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Felipe Barreto blasted a shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Martin Crețu having to make a save. If Felipe Barreto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Martin Crețu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Caetano Moreira in the 29th minute of play. Fabricio Andrade sent away a hard shot on goal in the 32nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, Stiinta-Univ.'s Aurel Panait got a free kick in the 33rd minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Felipe Barreto in the 39th minute of play forced Stiinta-Univ.'s goalkeeper Martin Crețu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Wilson Amorim made an important save on a dangerous shot by Muhammet Altın in the 41st minute. In the 45th minute, Graciano Coutinho hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Aurel Panait's shot from long distance in the 45th minute was not bad at all, but Portugal's Wilson Amorim knew what was happening and pushed the ball into his arms just before it hit the right post. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Viriato Moura was the one to do the kick off. Portugal were awarded a corner in the 56th minute after Stiinta-Univ.'s defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Felipe Barreto took the corner. A nice corner shot did that Rodolfo Miranda got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Martin Crețu quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. In the 59th match minute, Stiinta-Univ. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Valeriu Morovan to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Shi Ming Sheng in the 62nd minute of play forced Portugal's goalkeeper Wilson Amorim to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Benjamim Urbano ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 85th minute Daniel Pimentel shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Martin Crețu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Pimentel in the 85th minute of play forced Stiinta-Univ.'s goalkeeper Martin Crețu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Felipinho Amorim who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 87thth minute tested the skills of Martin Crețu when he managed to save the team from getting behind. The supporters of Portugal booed when Stiinta-Univ. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 95 match minutes in a wonderful position. Aurel Panait didn't get a good kick on the ball. Portugal's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
