Czarne Mamby's supporters rose to their feet, but Borys Smolarek was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Vavrinec Holub breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Erik Jilek had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Czech Republic's zone, Jaroslaw Zahemski stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Vavrinec Holub came out of the goal and Jaroslaw Zahemski tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Denis Dostal came up free with the goalie in the 44th minute, the Czech Republic fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Denis Dostal couldn't finish the play. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Erik Jilek made a kick off. Luka Modrić hit a great freekick 53 minutes into the match. Czarne Mamby's supporters crossed their fingers, but Borys Smolarek was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Jaroslaw Zahemski had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Czarne Mamby fans cheered their team off the field, for while Czech Republic had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
