After 17 minutes, Erland Kvist mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Sundborn IF and the Netherlands players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 18th minute, Kees Mooiweer hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Ted Holmgren came up free with the goalie in the 19th minute, the Sundborn IF fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ted Holmgren couldn't finish the play. Kalle Askberg made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from David Eikelkamp in the 22nd minute of play. Arnout Reekers showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ted Holmgren in the 30th minute of the match. Gijsbert ter Kruimer might have been able to make a better finish in the 38th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Kalle Askberg. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Gijsbert ter Kruimer ran back to his position shaking his head. Kalle Askberg showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Wim Wilmes in the 43rd minute of the match. Sven-Olof Stephansson's late challenge caught a Netherlands's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Sven-Olof Stephansson helped the player get up and apologised. Sven-Olof Stephansson hit a great freekick 44 minutes into the match. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

When the final whistle sounded Netherlands left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Sundborn IF.
