Nico-Pascal Kapteina could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 27th minute of the match, but Ariz Äsädulla made a huge save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nurlan Salmanov in the 30th minute of play forced U21 Austria's goalkeeper Thorsten Ternes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 31 minutes, Robin Schriebl made it 1-0 with a short kick to the right side. U21 Azerbaijan's Ariz Äsädulla tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Nurlan Salmanov during the 36th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

Jens Krammer's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ariz Äsädulla read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 51st minute of play. Thorsten Ternes made an important save on a dangerous shot by Tärik Qäribov in the 54th minute. Thorsten Ternes stood somewhat misplaced when Nurlan Salmanov came free in front of goal and shot 2-1 to the left of him in the 54 minute. Thorsten Ternes made a fantastic save in the 56th minute, when Nurlan Salmanov sent off a good shot on target. Nico-Pascal Kapteina received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 60th minute. Ariz Äsädulla tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Robin Schriebl in the 64th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ariz Äsädulla saved U21 Azerbaijan from getting behind. Orxan Alişanov kicked well hit freekick during the 65th minute of the match. U21 Austria made a substitution. Luca Divis replaced Dennis-Sven Piater. In the 66th minute, Orxan Alişanov hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a rather tough play, U21 Austria's Luca Divis got a free kick in the 67th minute. In the 71st match minute, U21 Austria was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Luca Divis to maneuver through the defense. U21 Azerbaijan's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Jens Krammer ran over to the corner to take the kick. A nice corner shot did that Jens Krammer got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Ariz Äsädulla quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. In the 89th minute Jan Haase shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ariz Äsädulla saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. U21 Austria's Thorsten Ternes proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 93rd minute of the match, managed to save U21 Austria from getting a goal against them. Ariz Äsädulla stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Edin Džeko's shot from short distance in the 96th minute. U21 Austria were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of U21 Azerbaijan for a fine match.
