Leonard Moarcăș charged in rather forcefully in the 6th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Leonard Moarcăș the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca's Leonard Moarcăș got a free kick in the 6th minute. The referee felt a red card was in order, 16 minutes into the game, when Tizian Borutta put in a rough tackle. Axel Ballhaus had in the 17thth minute some difficulties stopping Lucian Şimonca's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. 19 minutes into the match, Sydney FC's goal looked a bit too open when Virgil Jupân came free, but Axel Ballhaus reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Axel Ballhaus came out of the goal in the 20th minute to try and stop a shot by PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca's Aristide Fetea. But to his dismay, Aristide Fetea quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. Axel Ballhaus made an important save on a dangerous shot by Golo Phoenix in the 27th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 30th minute, Golo Phoenix managed to get in a good position for a shot. PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca's supporters rose to their feet, but Golo Phoenix was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Axel Ballhaus breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 31st minute Golo Phoenix shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Axel Ballhaus saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 33 played minutes Sydney FC got a freekick which was hit by Hinrik Grobmaul. The audience thought a goal was coming when Aristide Fetea got free with Axel Ballhaus in the 34th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Aristide Fetea in the 34thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Axel Ballhaus, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Golo Phoenix let the left foot speak when in front of goal in the 36th minute shot 2-0 at rihgt post. Leonard Moarcăș shot from long distance in the 39th minute, but Axel Ballhaus was prepared and stopped the ball at the left post. 45 minutes into the game, Thorben Rittmann was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Sydney FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca the free kick. Thorben Rittmann hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match. After 47 played minutes PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca got a freekick which was hit by Nistor Vermeşan. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The wind increased when Thorben Rittmann made the kick off in the second half. Golo Phoenix received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Axel Ballhaus tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 59th minute the ball was on its way in behind Sydney FC's goalkeeper Axel Ballhaus, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Nistor Vermeşan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 61st minute. Axel Ballhaus tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 66 minutes into the game, Hippolyt Esche was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Sydney FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca the free kick. The supporters of PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca booed when Sydney FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 66 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hippolyt Esche didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 67th minute of the match Lucian Şimonca sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Axel Ballhaus skillfully saved the ball. Moise Ţurlău made a fantastic save in the 70th minute, when Adnan Tilner sent off a good shot on target. Leonard Moarcăș got his second yellow card in the match during the 74th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. A collision led to PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca getting a freekick after 74 minutes play. Leonard Moarcăș hit a great ball. After 75 played minutes, Sydney FC's Hinrik Grobmaul shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Moise Ţurlău came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Sydney FC reached it. Axel Ballhaus showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Golo Phoenix, who was totally free with the ball in the 84th minute. Axel Ballhaus stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Aristide Fetea's shot from short distance in the 91st minute. After 92 played minutes PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca got a freekick which was hit by Nistor Vermeşan. In the 93rd match minute, Sydney FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Thorben Rittmann to maneuver through the defense. 95 minutes into the match, Sydney FC's goal looked a bit too open when Golo Phoenix came free, but Axel Ballhaus reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca had won after a very even match.
