José Augusto Mineiro came out of the goal in the 26th minute to try and stop a shot by Montevideo's Gonçalo Mello. But to his dismay, Gonçalo Mello quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. Leandro Brito fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without José Augusto Mineiro having to interfere. In the 41st match minute, Guarani Futebol Clube was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Felipe Tasso to maneuver through the defense. Diogo Vale's long shot made the audience stand up and applaude when it rumbled by José Augusto Mineiro on his right side and into the goal. 42 minutes into the game it was 1-2. The Guarani Futebol Clube players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Montevideo were winning 1-2.

After 66 minutes, Geovanni Fernandes mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Guarani Futebol Clube and the Montevideo players grew even worse after the yellow card. Gonçalo Mello's late challenge caught a Guarani Futebol Clube's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. When Leandro Brito came up free with the goalie in the 91st minute, the Montevideo fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Leandro Brito couldn't finish the play.
