If Murilo Neto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a little luck, E.C.Pelotas's Sobhy Paredes got control of the ball when Cafu do Nascimento tried to sneak it across the goal line. Sobhy Paredes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Didi Barros in the 24th minute of play. Romário Dantas showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Murilo Neto, who was totally free with the ball in the 33rd minute. Sobhy Paredes made an important save on a dangerous shot by Cafu do Nascimento in the 34th minute. Murilo Neto fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Romário Dantas having to interfere. In the 39th minute Murilo Neto shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Romário Dantas saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Didi Barros received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Sobhy Paredes came out and tried to block the shot, but Didi Barros slotted it home off the left post making it 1-1 in the 45th minute. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and João Vítor Dante made a kick off. When Murilo Neto came up free with the goalie in the 51st minute, the E.C.Pelotas fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Murilo Neto couldn't finish the play. 53 minutes into the game, E.C.Pelotas's Alfonso Leon nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Romário Dantas made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. E.C.Pelotas's Ronaldinho Gaúcho was substituted for Lionel Ronaldo. E.C.Pelotas's Wilhelm Rolfsson was substituted for Nando Vides. The supporters of Laranja EC booed when E.C.Pelotas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 56 match minutes in a wonderful position. Laranja EC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Murilo Neto was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-4. In the 72nd minute, Laranja EC's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Murilo Neto fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. A collision led to Laranja EC getting a freekick after 75 minutes play. Jardel Arantes hit a great ball. 76 minutes into the game, Erivaldo Furlan was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. E.C.Pelotas's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Laranja EC the free kick. In the 77th minute, Erivaldo Furlan hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 83 minutes into the game, E.C.Pelotas's Luke Modrić nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Romário Dantas made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-5. Jardel Arantes hit a great freekick 86 minutes into the match. In the 87th minute, Benjamin Marinho made a precise shot to the right of Romário Dantas. Laranja EC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-6. After a rather tough play, E.C.Pelotas's Erivaldo Furlan got a free kick in the 89th minute. Romário Dantas made an important save on a dangerous shot by Murilo Neto in the 91st minute. Laranja EC's Romário Dantas proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 93rd minute of the match, managed to save Laranja EC from getting a goal against them. Benjamin Marinho shot from long distance in the 96th minute, but Romário Dantas was prepared and stopped the ball at the left post. The E.C.Pelotas supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing E.C.Pelotas would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
