Batalhão do Peçanha's Petr Čech played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nestor Paraibano in the 3rd minute of play. The supporters of Batalhão do Peçanha booed when Marquês de Herval was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 5 match minutes in a wonderful position. Pedro Luís da Rocha didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 6th minute, Deng Yue Zhen ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Dida Taffarel was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. 9 minutes into the game, Batalhão do Peçanha's Deng Yue Zhen nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Dida Taffarel made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-0. Dida Taffarel made an important save on a dangerous shot by Arnaldo Tróia in the 14th minute. Petr Čech took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alfredo Martins, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Dida Taffarel made an important save on a dangerous shot by Deng Yue Zhen in the 19th minute. Batalhão do Peçanha's Petr Čech played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alfredo Martins in the 21st minute of play. The shot was a little too simple and Dida Taffarel could save by the left post. 33 minutes into the match, Batalhão do Peçanha's Deng Yue Zhen sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Dida Taffarel narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After taking down the ball on Batalhão do Peçanha's corner Deng Yue Zhen fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Dida Taffarel quite easily take care of the ball. When the match clock showed 40 minutes, the score became 3-0 when Deng Yue Zhen sped through Marquês de Herval's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Dida Taffarel. Gao Xiang Guang made in the 47th minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by German Cano. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Deng Yue Zhen made the kick off in the second half. In the 59th match minute, Batalhão do Peçanha was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Vânderson Vasconcelos to maneuver through the defense. 62 minutes had been played when some careless play by Batalhão do Peçanha's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Pedro Luís da Rocha was slow to take the kick. During this time Marquês de Herval's players had a chance to rest. Dida Taffarel came out of the goal in the 65th minute to try and stop a shot by Batalhão do Peçanha's Deng Yue Zhen. But to his dismay, Deng Yue Zhen quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-0. Petr Čech showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alfredo Martins in the 69th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Arnaldo Tróia in the 71st minute of play forced Marquês de Herval's goalkeeper Dida Taffarel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Petr Čech made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alfredo Martins in the 73rd minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Marquês de Herval's zone, Arnaldo Tróia stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dida Taffarel came out of the goal and Arnaldo Tróia tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Petr Čech showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from German Cano in the 78th minute of the match. Petr Čech showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alfredo Martins, who was totally free with the ball in the 80th minute. After having played for 84 minutes, Alfredo Martins managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Marquês de Herval's supporters crossed their fingers, but Alfredo Martins was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Jens-Ola Gunnarsson hit a great freekick 86 minutes into the match. When Pedro Luís da Rocha fell near the penalty area in the 90th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Marquês de Herval's protests and gave Pedro Luís da Rocha a yellow card for diving instead. In the 90th match minute, Marquês de Herval was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Pedro Luís da Rocha to maneuver through the defense. 91 minutes into the match, Batalhão do Peçanha's Deng Yue Zhen sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Dida Taffarel narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 95th minute, Nestor Paraibano hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. For all the effort they put into the match, the Marquês de Herval players left disappointed.
