Spectators: 38 (Terracing: 29, Seating: 9, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Remigiusz Tomaszewski started the match with the kick off. 3 minutes into the match, Genk's Suat Kaya sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Edgar Finsberg narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 6th minute, Ariel Paris hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Edgar Finsberg made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Suat Kaya in the 7th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Suat Kaya in the 11th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Edgar Finsberg saved FC Karlskoga from getting behind. After having played for 14 minutes, Suat Kaya managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Genk's supporters crossed their fingers, but Suat Kaya was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 17 minutes FC Karlskoga's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Loui Wouqier who took care of the corner kick. The corner led Genk's Loui Wouqier to fire away a dangerous shot which Edgar Finsberg despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in FC Karlskoga's zone, Rain De Hond stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Edgar Finsberg came out of the goal and Rain De Hond tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 23rd minute, Suat Kaya managed to get in a good position for a shot. Genk's supporters rose to their feet, but Suat Kaya was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Edgar Finsberg breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 27 minutes into the match, Genk's goalkeeper Jannes Van Leempoel had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Remigiusz Tomaszewski. Genk's Jannes Van Leempoel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Remigiusz Tomaszewski in the 32nd minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Suat Kaya in the 33rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Edgar Finsberg prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 35 minutes into the match, FC Karlskoga's goal looked a bit too open when Alfons Rijniers came free, but Edgar Finsberg reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 43 minutes into the game, Rain De Hond cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Edgar Finsberg was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After the first half Genk were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Suat Kaya stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Suat Kaya in the 52nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Edgar Finsberg saved FC Karlskoga from getting behind. 53 minutes into the match, FC Karlskoga's goalkeeper Edgar Finsberg had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Suat Kaya. Edgar Finsberg made a fantastic save in the 54th minute, when Suat Kaya sent off a good shot on target. In the 57thth minute of the game Suat Kaya who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but FC Karlskoga's Edgar Finsberg was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Jannes Van Leempoel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Remigiusz Tomaszewski in the 61st minute of play. 66 minutes into the game, Suat Kaya recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Edgar Finsberg. Suat Kaya showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 0-3. Genk made a substitution. Vergil Rupov replaced Suat Kaya. Vergil Rupov fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Edgar Finsberg having to interfere. In the 73rd minute, Rain De Hond got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Vergil Rupov sent away a hard shot on goal in the 75th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After having played for 77 minutes, Wit Fiszer managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FC Karlskoga's supporters crossed their fingers, but Wit Fiszer was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some careless play in the FC Karlskoga defense, Vergil Rupov kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Edgar Finsberg. The FC Karlskoga fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Edgar Finsberg should have stopped the shot. After 87 minutes of play, Genk's Vergil Rupov made it 0-5 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Edgar Finsberg was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 91st minute of the match, Vergil Rupov got a very nice opportunity to score, but Edgar Finsberg was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Edgar Finsberg showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Vergil Rupov, who was totally free with the ball in the 93rd minute. The FC Karlskoga supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Genk's performance. The match ended with a win for Genk.
