After taking down the ball on Matos Velhos's corner Domingos Palmeira fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Armindo Maltez quite easily take care of the ball. 6 minutes into the match, Ponte do Carro's goalkeeper Armindo Maltez had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Henrique Candal. In the 8th minute Henrique Candal shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Armindo Maltez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Sabino Vilhena in the 12th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Armindo Maltez saved Ponte do Carro from getting behind. Graciano Caneira hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. When Heigo Luiga came up free with the goalie in the 18th minute, the Matos Velhos fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Heigo Luiga couldn't finish the play. Armindo Maltez made an important save on a dangerous shot by Heigo Luiga in the 20th minute. In the 23rd minute Henrique Candal shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Armindo Maltez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Through an outstanding action, after 31 minutes, Armindo Maltez successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. When Lisandro Fagundes fell near the penalty area in the 42nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Matos Velhos's protests and gave Lisandro Fagundes a yellow card for diving instead. After 42 played minutes Matos Velhos got a freekick which was hit by Lisandro Fagundes. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Henrique Candal made a kick off. Armindo Maltez showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Henrique Candal, who was totally free with the ball in the 51st minute. Matos Velhos's Mike van Kampen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Simão Boaventura in the 54th minute of play.
