Falcão Cunha made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. A collision led to Marquês de Herval getting a freekick after 25 minutes play. Murilo Hoffmann hit a great ball. Falcão Cunha showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nestor Paraibano in the 28th minute of the match. In the 31st minute Augusto Saldanha shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dida Taffarel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Valentin Vizitiu kicked well hit freekick during the 37th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Gracie Barra's Emanuel de Lara got a free kick in the 41st minute. Falcão Cunha took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nestor Paraibano, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Gracie Barra's supporters rose to their feet, but Augusto Saldanha was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Dida Taffarel breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
