Tomás Tasso showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Paulo Renato Paiva in the 12th minute of the match. Rui Silva struck a weak shot in the 14th minute. Tomás Tasso didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Inazuma Japan. The supporters of Inazuma Japan booed when Nova Era was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Zé Augusto de Sousa didn't get a good kick on the ball. Gilson Prestes recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 29th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 33 minutes into the match, Nova Era's goal looked a bit too open when Adilson Ramalho came free, but Tomás Tasso reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 35th minute Didi Vergílio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Zé Vieira saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Gilson Prestes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Paulo Renato Paiva fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tomás Tasso having to interfere. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Adilson Ramalho to make the kick off. When Dorian Penha fell near the penalty area in the 52nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick.
