In the 6th minute of the match Mugur Nisipeanu sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Narciso Guimarães skillfully saved the ball. Mugur Basarabescu's late challenge caught a October 04's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Mugur Basarabescu helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of October 04 booed when UFC STEAUA was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mugur Basarabescu didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 15th match minute, UFC STEAUA was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mugur Basarabescu to maneuver through the defense. Costică Petran stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Luís Eduardo França's shot from short distance in the 16th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Hermengildo Jobo in the 17th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Narciso Guimarães prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Costică Petran stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Luís Eduardo França's shot from short distance in the 25th minute. The supporters of UFC STEAUA booed when October 04 was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 26 match minutes in a wonderful position. Anderson Machado didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 28 minutes, Wilian Alcântara mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the October 04 and the UFC STEAUA players grew even worse after the yellow card. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 28th minute of the game. One of October 04:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of UFC STEAUA:s goal. Narciso Guimarães had in the 29thth minute some difficulties stopping Hermengildo Jobo's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Hermengildo Jobo took the ball and in the 33 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Narciso Guimarães. Narciso Guimarães dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. If Hermengildo Jobo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 41st minute, Luís Eduardo França left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The October 04 fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. After a rather tough play, October 04's Angelo Barbosa got a free kick in the 45th minute. 47 minutes into the match, October 04's goal looked a bit too open when Mugur Basarabescu came free, but Narciso Guimarães reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The wind increased when Hermengildo Jobo made the kick off in the second half. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Hermengildo Jobo in the 52nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Narciso Guimarães saved October 04 from getting behind. In the 55th match minute, October 04 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Wilian Alcântara to maneuver through the defense. Narciso Guimarães took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Hermengildo Jobo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nistor Fenici in the 61st minute of play forced October 04's goalkeeper Narciso Guimarães to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. October 04's Narciso Guimarães played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nelson Mendoza in the 67th minute of play. If Nelson Mendoza had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. October 04 made a substitution. Mário Pena replaced Anderson Machado. October 04's Rodolfo Munhoz was substituted for Alex Mello. After 75 minutes, Luís Eduardo França made it 2-3 with a short kick to the right side. UFC STEAUA's Costică Petran tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Narciso Guimarães showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hermengildo Jobo, who was totally free with the ball in the 80th minute. 88 minutes into the game, Hermengildo Jobo cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-3. Narciso Guimarães was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Nistor Fenici charged in rather forcefully in the 92nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Nistor Fenici the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Costică Petran acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 93rd minute, took the ball on the long shot from Waldemar de Sena. After a rather tough play, October 04's Horácio Aguiar got a free kick in the 95th minute. In the 96th minute of the match Mugur Basarabescu shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Narciso Guimarães showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After 96 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for October 04! The referee gave UFC STEAUA a penalty, 98 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Hermengildo Jobo, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of October 04's Narciso Guimarães. 4-3. UFC STEAUA's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
