An unexpectedly hard shot by Tomas Levander in the 25th minute of play forced Kiev FC's goalkeeper Cirilo Frederico to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 25th minute, Tomas Levander left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Yao Zhan Sang showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Yao Zhan Sang took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Anselmo Iturri, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Kiev FC's attentive Benny Stahlschmidt managed to snatch the ball when Yakup Sargut made a throw-in in the 45th minute of the game. A sloppy throw-in by Yakup Sargut in the 46th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Kiev FC's Benny Stahlschmidt. The supporters of Borussia Dortmund booed when Kiev FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Angelino Abeita didn't get a good kick on the ball. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Fernando Grover was the one to do the kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 51st minute, Anselmo Iturri managed to get in a good position for a shot. Kiev FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Anselmo Iturri was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Yao Zhan Sang breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a defensive mix-up in Kiev FC's zone, Baltazar Clavijo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Cirilo Frederico came out of the goal and Baltazar Clavijo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 86 minutes into the game, Borussia Dortmund's Fernandez Quintairos nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Cirilo Frederico made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-0. Yao Zhan Sang took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Anselmo Iturri, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 94 minutes Kiev FC's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Yakup Sargut who took care of the corner kick. Rodolfo Burni fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 96th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Yao Zhan Sang having to interfere. Kiev FC's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
