Rune Jarstein was out of position in the 16 minute of play, and Valter Xabat capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Valter Xabat really showed his touch with that goal: 2-0. Rune Jarstein made a fantastic save in the 20th minute, when Manfred Kottsieper sent off a good shot on target. In the 24th minute Wilhelm Nienhaus shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jess Carnduff saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Alemannia Aachen booed when Hertha 1969 was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 44 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lüder Roppel didn't get a good kick on the ball.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Valter Xabat was the one to do the kick off. Alemannia Aachen's attentive Louis Leißner managed to snatch the ball when Lüder Roppel made a throw-in in the 50th minute of the game. Rune Jarstein showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Valter Xabat in the 52nd minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Thomas Müller in the 53rd minute of play forced Hertha 1969's goalkeeper Rune Jarstein to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 56 minutes into the game, Alemannia Aachen's Valter Xabat nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Rune Jarstein made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-1. Hertha 1969's Stefan Mayer was substituted for Lüder Roppel. In the 86th minute Valter Xabat shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rune Jarstein saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 88 minutes into the game, Gigel Elenescu recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Jess Carnduff. Gigel Elenescu showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 4-2. Hertha 1969's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
