The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 3 minutes into the match, Batalionul U23 Dorobanti's goal looked a bit too open when Kristian Oswald came free, but Flavio Peter reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 4th minute of the match Hertha 1969 got a corner. Batalionul U23 Dorobanti's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Wilhelm Nienhaus ran over to the corner to take the kick. Hertha 1969's Rune Jarstein proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 7th minute of the match, managed to save Hertha 1969 from getting a goal against them. Flavio Peter made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Wilhelm Nienhaus in the 9th minute of play. The supporters of Hertha 1969 booed when Batalionul U23 Dorobanti was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marcus Pinho didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Korneliusz Barna got free with Rune Jarstein in the 16th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Ulisses Doro hit a great freekick 20 minutes into the match. In the 25th minute, Zé Paulo da Silva ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Flavio Peter was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Flavio Peter showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wilhelm Nienhaus, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. After a rather tough play, Batalionul U23 Dorobanti's Filip Negulici got a free kick in the 31st minute. Kristian Oswald recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 33rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Batalionul U23 Dorobanti's Flavio Peter played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Wilhelm Nienhaus in the 34th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Batalionul U23 Dorobanti's Xerxes Doro got a free kick in the 39th minute. If Wilhelm Nienhaus had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 44th minute Zé Paulo da Silva shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Flavio Peter saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Wilhelm Nienhaus made the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wilhelm Nienhaus in the 51st minute of play forced Batalionul U23 Dorobanti's goalkeeper Flavio Peter to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Wilhelm Nienhaus got free with Flavio Peter in the 54th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. With 56 minutes on the clock, Marcus Pinho commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. Hertha 1969 made a substitution. Stefan Mayer replaced Lüder Roppel. Flavio Peter had in the 59thth minute some difficulties stopping Wilhelm Nienhaus's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. When the match had gone on for 62 minutes, Wilhelm Nienhaus put it in 0-2 from a short distance just to the right of Flavio Peter. Rune Jarstein made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Filip Negulici in the 65th minute of play. With a little luck, Batalionul U23 Dorobanti's Flavio Peter got control of the ball when Kristian Oswald tried to sneak it across the goal line. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Flavio Peter prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gigel Elenescu got free with Flavio Peter in the 84th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Flavio Peter took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Wilhelm Nienhaus, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 89th minute Karl-Michael Brask shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rune Jarstein saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Lothar Heber kicked well hit freekick during the 90th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Karl-Michael Brask in the 94th minute of play forced Hertha 1969's goalkeeper Rune Jarstein to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 95 played minutes Hertha 1969 got a freekick which was hit by Lothar Heber. In the 96th minute of the match Tiberiu Zgârcu sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Rune Jarstein skillfully saved the ball. In the 97th minute Wilhelm Nienhaus shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Flavio Peter saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Hertha 1969's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
