In the 18th minute the ball was on its way in behind New England Minas's goalkeeper Jeremy Nicholas, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Sydney Leão hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. Tony Pacheco's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Juninho de Azevedo read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 21st minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Percy Carioca got free with Jeremy Nicholas in the 29th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Juninho de Azevedo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tony Pacheco in the 32nd minute of play. After 35 minutes, Percy Carioca made it 1-2 with a short kick to the right side. After some fancy dribbling in the 69th minute, Glen Conklin managed to get in a good position for a shot. New England Minas's supporters rose to their feet, but Glen Conklin was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. For all the effort they put into the match, the New England Minas players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense.
