In the 16th minute Pedro Leitão shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Titus Fernandez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 17th minute, Kentucky Mustangs's Santo Finney dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Adalberto Saldanha in the 22nd minute of play forced Kentucky Mustangs's goalkeeper Titus Fernandez to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Kentucky Mustangs's Titus Fernandez played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Joaquim Torres in the 23rd minute of play. Titus Fernandez stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Mariano Vilela's shot from short distance in the 27th minute. Tarcísio Sousa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Vaughn Willingham, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 41 minutes into the match, Kentucky Mustangs's goal looked a bit too open when Mariano Vilela came free, but Titus Fernandez reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 43 minutes into the game, Joaquim Torres cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Titus Fernandez was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Adalberto Saldanha made a kick off. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Santo Finney during the 61st minute.
