Gustave Lechat made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. 7 minutes into the match, Hannover Reds's goal looked a bit too open when Paulo Teinturier came free, but Hartmut Klein reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some careless play in the Hannover Reds defense, Paulo Teinturier kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Hartmut Klein. The Hannover Reds fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Hartmut Klein should have stopped the shot. In the 17th minute, Hannover Reds's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Paulo Teinturier fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. 18 minutes into the match, Hannover Reds's goal looked a bit too open when Luka Le Tiec came free, but Hartmut Klein reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jon Bak hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. Gustave Lechat made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jon Bak in the 24th minute of play. In the 33rd minute Jon Bak shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gustave Lechat saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Paulo Teinturier got free with Hartmut Klein in the 35th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 38th minute, Bart Vetter left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The R.C. Marseille fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-1. Hartmut Klein stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Paulo Teinturier's shot from short distance in the 41st minute. In the 42nd match minute, R.C. Marseille was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alexandre Dubar to maneuver through the defense. The supporters of R.C. Marseille booed when Hannover Reds was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sol Harnack didn't get a good kick on the ball. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Immanuel Baumann to make the kick off. In the 51st minute, Immanuel Baumann got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 53 minutes, Roman Lheureux mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the R.C. Marseille and the Hannover Reds players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 53 played minutes R.C. Marseille got a freekick which was hit by Roman Lheureux. An unexpectedly hard shot by Paulo Teinturier in the 55th minute of play forced Hannover Reds's goalkeeper Hartmut Klein to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 58 played minutes Hannover Reds got a freekick which was hit by Sol Harnack. After a rather tough play, R.C. Marseille's Alexandre Dubar got a free kick in the 61st minute. In the 68th minute, R.C. Marseille's Roman Lheureux seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Roman Lheureux the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of R.C. Marseille protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Roman Lheureux had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In a very dangerous position, a player in R.C. Marseille fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 67th minute. Penalty! In the 77th minute Paulo Teinturier shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hartmut Klein saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Gustave Lechat showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Immanuel Baumann, who was totally free with the ball in the 79th minute. Gustave Lechat took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jon Bak, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a rather tough play, R.C. Marseille's Emilio Abrego got a free kick in the 83rd minute. Paavo Burgdorf in the 84thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Gustave Lechat, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. In the 86th minute, Immanuel Baumann left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Hannover Reds fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-3. Through an outstanding action, after 91 minutes, Gustave Lechat successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. After 92 minutes R.C. Marseille's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Mathieu Freudenberger who took care of the corner kick. A nice corner shot did that Jon Bak got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Gustave Lechat quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. The R.C. Marseille supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Hannover Reds's performance. The match ended with a win for Hannover Reds.
