The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. An unexpectedly hard shot by Percy Bertassi in the 3rd minute of play forced Mexilhão F. C.'s goalkeeper Guga Tavares to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 4 minutes Mexilhão F. C.'s defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Hernani Correia who took care of the corner kick. Ronaldinho Romero hit a great freekick 5 minutes into the match. Mexilhão F. C.'s Guga Tavares played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Percy Bertassi in the 12th minute of play. Ronaldinho Romero scored 1-0 in the 15th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of José Augusto Alcântara, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Guga Tavares made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Waldemar Lara in the 21st minute of play. Bahia's José Augusto Alcântara proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 24th minute of the match, managed to save Bahia from getting a goal against them. Anaia Barba received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. José Augusto Alcântara came out and tried to block the shot, but Anaia Barba slotted it home off the left post making it 2-0 in the 26th minute. Ronaldinho Romero scored 3-0 in the 31st match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of José Augusto Alcântara, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After a rather tough play, Bahia's Hernani Correia got a free kick in the 38th minute. José Augusto Alcântara was a little too slow when Anaia Barba got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 41st minute. The score was now 5-0. José Augusto Alcântara came out of the goal in the 44th minute to try and stop a shot by Mexilhão F. C.'s Ronaldinho Romero. But to his dismay, Ronaldinho Romero quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 6-0. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Anaia Barba made a kick off. 51 minutes into the match, Bahia's goal looked a bit too open when Anaia Barba came free, but José Augusto Alcântara reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to Bahia getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. Mário Medeiros hit a great ball. The Bahia fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that José Augusto Alcântara should have stopped the shot. In the 63rd minute, one of Bahia:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Bahia. After 67 minutes of play, Mexilhão F. C.'s Germano Siqueira made it 9-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. José Augusto Alcântara was left in no man's land by his defense there! 72 minutes into the match, Anaia Barba had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of José Augusto Alcântara. Bahia's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Anaia Barba was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 10-0. José Augusto Alcântara made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Abel de Lara in the 96th minute of play. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Mexilhão F. C. fully deserved thier win.
