After a rather tough play, Gremio NG's Anderson Toscano got a free kick in the 5th minute. Wesley Cardoso made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hayden Laframboise in the 6th minute of play. The supporters of Toronto United booed when Gremio NG was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Giovanni dos Santos didn't get a good kick on the ball. Rolf Leslie scored 0-1 in the 13th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Wesley Cardoso, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 23 minutes into the game, Giovanni dos Santos threw the ball into play from the sideline. Toronto United's Moses Stratton quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. William Nance made a fantastic save in the 25th minute, when Guto Queiroz sent off a good shot on target. Wesley Cardoso didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Hayden Laframboise went, in the 40th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. Alan Aguiar kicked well hit freekick during the 44th minute of the match. The Gremio NG players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Toronto United were winning 0-2.

After a defensive mix-up in Gremio NG's zone, Hayden Laframboise stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Wesley Cardoso came out of the goal and Hayden Laframboise tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Toronto United made a substitution. Winfred Varela replaced Ramiro Peterson. Toronto United's Brandon Short quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Vítor Martins, made in the 68th minute of the game. Hayden Laframboise fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wesley Cardoso having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hayden Laframboise in the 71st minute of play forced Gremio NG's goalkeeper Wesley Cardoso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After having played for 74 minutes, Hayden Laframboise managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Toronto United's supporters crossed their fingers, but Hayden Laframboise was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 78th minute, Hayden Laframboise managed to get in a good position for a shot. Toronto United's supporters rose to their feet, but Hayden Laframboise was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Wesley Cardoso breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
