Oscar Prado's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Olivier Dubs read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 31st minute of play. After 32 minutes BEST FABIO F.C.'s defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Nelson Mandrak who took care of the corner kick. The corner led Sport Club Mavericks's Nelson Mandrak to fire away a dangerous shot which Olivier Dubs despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Fritz Berghmans took the ball and in the 37 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Amadeu Prado. Amadeu Prado dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-2. In the 40th minute Fritz Berghmans shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Amadeu Prado saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Donato Saraiva in the 45th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Olivier Dubs prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Fritz Berghmans was the one to do the kick off.
